of gays and lesbians.
perhaps it’s not the norm or what society may perceive as alright. unorthodox some may call their ways. mortal sinners others would view them. but why is it so wrong for gays and lesbians to express their sexuality freely, when all they are actually guilty of is being themselves?
i, being straight, could not imagine the kind of challenge that the members of the third sex face each and every single day. the moment they set foot outside their front door, they immediately step into a battlefield, where almost inevitably, they have to fight for who they are, verbally or non-verbally.
what is so wrong with coming out and expressing their sexuality, really? why do people condemn those who have bravely come out of their closets, and choose to adore those who are rather straight, yet fundamentally evil? the Bible may say that gays and lesbians are prohibited on this earth, but who wrote the Bible in the first place anyway?
don’t get me wrong. my faith in the Lord is as solid as a rock. but that starts and ends there. when it comes to the Bible, that is where i start asking questions. first of all, it is said that this Holy Book is the word of God. and yet, true as this may be, many chapters and pages of this sacred scripture have been omitted by those who proclaim to follow in the footsteps of the Lord. seems to me, the fundamental truth has been omitted as well. seems to me, that if the Bible was indeed a true scripture of God, no man shall ever alter it. in any way.
the point i’m trying to make here is that, whether it is written in a so-called sacred scripture or not, in my opinion, it all boils down to the fundamentals of being gay or lesbian. if they aren’t hurting anyone, or stepping on anyone’s toes, why is it so wrong? if being their true self frees them of all their insecurities and make them a better person, why is it so wrong? if it makes the world a happier and gay-er place, then why on earth is it so wrong?
if such are the consequences of their so-called “sin,” then without hesitations i say, this world needs more of them. it’s time that society widens its perspective when it comes to that of gays and lesbians.
i end this blog with one of my favorite quotes from Timo Cruz:
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our dark that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people don’t feel insecure around you.We are all meant to shine as children do. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsiously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
i guess perhaps, it’s about time we all let them shine. don’t you think?
